Such is the times we live in.
George Eustice, another stupid Tory, fails to condemn those that booed footballers taking a knee during some match or other. I'm not sure what he thinks he's saying, other than to make excuses for racism. I expect no less from the ruling class. Taking a knee is an act of solidarity with people of colour against institutional racism. Of course as a representative of that institution he's going to think like this.
That's why it's called institutional racism.
There is no plurality of views here. There is the correct view: racism is wrong. Everything else either defends or constitutes racism directly. I don't need nor have you the right to expect me to respect that. If you cannot or will not rehabilitate your view such that you recognise that racism is wrong, then you don't get respect. If we tolerate intolerance, as the saying goes, all that remains is intolerance. Racists and bigots thrive on validity and crave that equality of views. Free speech does not include hate speech, that is a canard. There is no freedom toward intolerance and those that try to box clever with the notion are not your friend. They are appealing to your good nature and abusing logic to make a point that shouldn't be made.
Do not tolerate intolerance. That is the only path to a truly tolerant society. Whenever a person with power, such as Eustice, refuses to condemn racism or refuses to support those who do, he is making that racism more acceptable. There is no middle ground, no space for inquiry; you have refused to take the opportunity to join the chorus condemning this evil. In so doing that evil gets a little bit stronger.
That is not acceptable.
But then I expect nothing less from a Tory.
